Fire hoops, poi, sticks and everything else!

It adds that little extra to every act. It's fun. It's pretty. It's fire. What is there not to like?

Post your prettypictures, give advice and show off your own mad skills! Unfortunately I don't have any mad fireskills to show off (yet!), so I'll start with a few pictures.

Ooooh. I loooove me some fire. Sadly, not yet at the point of playing with it myself yet.

The first time I ever sat and watched someone was at a music festival called Wakarusa back in 2006, and here's a photo from that night:



After that I got into belly dance and discovered these two lovely ladies: KC & Elana, who make up Bella Fuegas and they're pretty popular here in the Chicago fire scene...a friend passed along this video to me (which I posted in the other thread about hoop videos) and I immediately began my hooping journey - which still is slow going but I'm determined!

I saw the Belle fuegas videos earlier, I love it! It combines three things I love: tribal fusio bellydancing, mad circus skills and fire. Now, dip them in chocolate and hand them a bottle of mead and I'll have a heart attack out of sheer happiness.

And Harley, I think the guy in the last picture is using a simple burning stick, nothing fancy.

I REEEALLY want a good LED hoop, but they run pretty expensive. I did find a tutorial but ugh...I'm so challenged when it comes to stuff like that.

I did have some really cheap LED poi I got at Rothbury this year, but one of them died Cheap POS!

If you can find anything small with leds it should be possible to make your own led hoop. Think buttons, toys you can take apart, things like that. If you cut out/drill some holes into the hoop and glue the led-devices in there it should work. Just make sure they're on the 'outside' of the hoop and that you can still reach the on/off switch
Battery-operated led christmas lights should be possible, but you'd have to use three or four sets to keep it balanced =/

And of course you could do it the easier/better but more professional way - soldering things together to make a led-thing and attaching it to the hoop - but improvising is so much fun. If you do want to do it 'right', just google 'how to make led hoop'. There's plenty.
